How to find blurry and closed-eye photos on iPhone

The iPhone Photos app can merge duplicate photos, but it has no album for blurry photos or photos where someone blinked. You can clean up bursts for free and review the rest by hand, or let an app look for them. PhotoSlimmer does this on your iPhone, without uploading your photos.

Updated 16 October 2026. Apple menu facts checked against Apple Support for iOS 27.

Does the Photos app find blurry or closed-eye photos?

Not that Apple documents. Apple's guide to the Utilities collections lists things like receipts, handwriting, illustrations and QR codes. The Duplicates album is for copies of the same photo. Neither covers blurry shots or closed eyes.

What can I do for free?

This works, but blurry and blinked shots are scattered across years of photos, so finding them by scrolling takes a long time.

How do I find them with PhotoSlimmer?

PhotoSlimmer is a photo cleaner that finds blurry, dark and closed-eye photos, plus duplicate and similar shots. It's on the App Store for iPhone and on Google Play for Android, and the steps below use the iPhone app. All analysis runs on your phone using a model built into the app. Your photos are never uploaded, and there is no account.

  1. Install PhotoSlimmer from the App Store. It needs an iPhone with iOS 18.0 or later.
  2. Allow access to your photos when iOS asks. On first use it starts with your last 3 months of photos.
  3. On the home screen, Today's cleanup shows how many candidates it found and how much space they take.
  4. Tap People to see shots of people and pets, which is where closed eyes and motion blur usually are. Other covers scenery and objects, and Info & Screens covers screenshots and documents.
  5. Tap a photo to compare it with shots taken around the same time, then tap Mark for deletion, or Exclude to keep it out of the list.
  6. Tap Review candidates, then delete. iOS shows its own confirmation, and deleted photos go to Recently Deleted for 30 days.

Nothing is selected for you and nothing is deleted on its own. Every candidate is a suggestion, so look before you delete. Scanning and reviewing are free, and you can delete up to 50 photos a day for free. The limit resets at local midnight. A one-time in-app purchase called Unlimited removes the limit ($9.99 in the US). There is no subscription.

Detection isn't perfect, and we haven't published an accuracy number because there is no independent benchmark yet. See the About page for how it works and the Privacy Policy for what it does with data (nothing leaves your iPhone).

Not that Apple documents. Apple's list of Utilities collections covers things like receipts, handwriting, illustrations and QR codes, and the Duplicates album is for copies of the same photo. There is no collection for blurry photos.

Can I find photos where someone blinked?

The Photos app has no collection for closed eyes. If you shot in burst mode, open the burst and keep only the frames where everyone's eyes are open. Otherwise you review by hand or use an app that looks for closed eyes.

Does PhotoSlimmer upload my photos to find blurry ones?

No. All analysis runs on your iPhone with a model built into the app, and the app makes zero network requests while it scans. There is no account.

Will PhotoSlimmer delete photos automatically?

No. PhotoSlimmer never deletes anything on its own and never pre-selects photos. Every deletion goes through the iOS system confirmation, and deleted photos stay in Recently Deleted for 30 days.
